At the 2023 Chicago Marathon, Kevin Kiptum crossed the finish line in 2:00:35, setting a new men's world record in the Nike Dec 163 prototype - rumored to be the latest iteration of the Alphafly. After some time, Nike confirmed that the Nike Air Zoom Alphafly 3 would soon be available to the public. In the new version, Nike focused on improving this model and after many rigorous tests with athletes conducted at the Nike Sports Research Center, it introduced key changes that allow for a more confident and stable run. This contributed to a more natural transfer of body weight from heel to toe .

In the third version, the Alphafly has a changed appearance, which emphasizes great dynamics. The sole has been unified, and the ZoomX foam combined in this way provides excellent stability and cushioning, which increases comfort while running. Two Air Zoom gas cushions located in the front of the shoe, together with the ZoomX foam, increase energy return with each step. There is also a full-size, slightly wider plate made of carbon fiber - Flyplate , which provides maximum dynamics and allows for confident and smooth steps during even the most intense run.

The third edition has gained an updated upper - Atomknit , which has been designed to provide better fit and breathability. Additionally, special laces with notches allow for comfortable lacing. The integrated tongue is made of knitted material with a larger volume lining, which reduces the pressure of the laces on the back of the foot. The lining used on the heel increases comfort. Reinforcement in the midfoot area increases stability, and the molded insert supports the lower profile of the foot arch.

The outsole features strategically placed abrasion-resistant rubber, which also increases traction.
